WhatsApp Latest update: Improved Change Number Feature

By // No comments:

As expected, WhatsApp the widely used instant messenger is constantly improving on its platform and now, updates are gradually rolling out to beta users.

WhatsApp is currently working on improving its Change number feature on iOS, Android and Windows phone. When someone gets a new number or changes his number on WhatsApp, it migrates the data to the new number preserving the chat history and will be automatically gets added to the groups that the old number is present and notifies group members.

With the latest feature rolling out, users now have the ability to choose if they want to notify some or all contacts. You can also choose to notify contacts you’ve chatted with. This is really a very handy feature to have when users change the number and want to notify their contacts.

Instead of notifying all contacts one after the other, you can choose the options to notify all your contacts or not to notify anyone at all… but groups you belong will always be notified about your number change. After your migration to a new number, all your chats history will be transferred to the new number.

Atleast, you can codedly change your number without notifying your whatsapp spy

The update is currently available for WhatsApp beta v2.18.97which you can download from Google Play store for Android. iOS and windows phone users will receive theirs in the next update.

Face ID vs. Password vs. PIN vs. Fingerprint: Which is The Best Way to Lock Your Smartphone?

By // No comments:

With the amount of personal data we keep on our phones, security is essential. Android phones are encrypted by default, and provide multiple methods for locking and unlocking them. Some are more secure, while others more convenient to use.

So we are wondering which is the best secure way to unlock your device?

Pin Code: A PIN code is a simple alternative to a password. A strong PIN code can be difficult to remember, but easier to enter than a password. Android allows PINs of up to 16 digits, which equates to 10 quadrillion combinations. Most people are more likely to choose a four digit PIN which may be difficult to guess so long as you don’t use something obvious like 1234 or 5555.

Pattern Lock: The pattern lock requires you to draw a pattern on a grid of nine dots. You need to join between four and all nine horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. It is easy to use, simple and likely predictable.

Pattern lock is only recommended if you don’t have a fingerprint ID scanner and you dislike Pin codes.

Finger Print ID: Fingerprint sensors are now so common you even get them in many entry-level phones. It has become the preferred unlock method for many. It is fast and secure but fingers are not always position in the right spot. Some phones even support fingerprint gestures.

Password: In my opinion, a randomly generated long password is still the most secure way to lock a phone.. A strong password—or better yet, a passphrase—can be difficult if not impossible to crack, and will ensure your phone and everything on it remains safe.

Face ID Recognition: Fast and unlocks your phone with just a glance. Not very secure in its current form.
Which unlock technology do you think is more secure to use and which do you currently use?

Glo Accused of Mass-Firing Married Women

By // No comments:

This news has been going round since last month but the heat is getting deeper on social media. Protest has been going on in Enugu, Lagos and some other states.

Telecoms giant Globacom Ltd, popularly referred to as Glo, has been accused of mass-sacking members of staff who are female and married.

The former staff members have alleged that although a few men and single ladies were also let go, married women were the most affected. As we are speaking, legal action is being taken against glo to ensure they are compensated for the alleged discrimination.

An unverified document shared by Twitter user @duchesskk showed that of 97 women sacked by Glo, only 4 were single, while the rest were married. See the documents here.

However, some affected former member of staffs granted TVC Lets talk interviewed, that they were told that their services are no longer required. Watch the interview here

Glo has refuted the claims that married women were targeted in the mass sack.
In a statement released on its Twitter, the company said both male and female, single and married, were let go. It wrote:

Globacom has in the recent past let go of employees, both male and female, married and single, due to performance issues. It is not true that this was restricted to married women alone.
Do you know any one that is affected by this sack?

If Your Device is Not Certified by Google, Apps Won't Run

By // No comments:

In other words, you can say Android is Google and Google is android; this is why I said so because some users have been reporting that they've been getting notifications informing them that their access to Google services has been stopped because their device or the software on their device isn't certified.

This is happening because every device manufacturer is expected to go through a process called Google's CDD (Compatibility Definition Document) and CTS (Compatibility Test Suite). After passing those tests and paying a license fee for the use of Google services, manufacturers would be allowed to preload Google's full suite of apps on their devices.

However, some device manufacturer didn’t go through that process, they bypass the process, preferred to ship their device with their own application storefronts and services, like Amazon and other Chinese vendors.

Previously, it was possible for uncertified devices to still make use of Google apps (shortened as ‘Gapps’ by the community), but now it appears that Google is cracking down those  devices—while still allowing custom ROM users to use Gapps!

If you get the message that your device isn’t certified by Google, you won’t be allowed to sign into your google account nor be able to use any google services on your smartphone.

Here is what you should do,

>> If you are running a ROM (custom version of Android) on a certified device, you can enter your Android ID here to get it certified. You can find out your Android ID by downloading the Device ID app, entering ##8255## in your phone dialer, or going into Menu > Settings > About Phone > Status.

>>You can use Titanum back up to restore your ID.

Huawei to Launch Phone With 512GB Storage

By // No comments:

What will you do with a smartphone with 512GB internal memory? Huawei is here to change the game plan and no doubt that Huawei is working on a Smartphone with a whopping 512GB of storage.

The device was first sighted on TENAA with a model number NEO-AL00 revealing 6GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. You don’t even need to think of using external sd card on this device because this is more or less like external hard disk that can make call and do everything expected of a smartphone.

Latest reports suggest that the device may be launched as a limited edition Huawei MateRS Porsche Design.

No information on the suppose specification for now other than speculations that it might likely come as a rebranded Mate 10 Pro. No information on the release date but Huawei is planning to unveil P20 series come March 27.

512GB onboard storage is an insane amount of storage up from the usual 256GB that phones like the iPhone X can offer. That amount of storage is bigger than most models of the MacBook Pro, and it would allow you to download the Facebook app (400MB) more than 1,200 times.

it’s clear that the trend of large storage phones has begun. Massive amounts of storage in phones is a lot of fun and will be particularly useful for recording 4K video since every three minutes of 4K footage takes up about 1GB.

8 Hidden Truth About TSTV Sassy Decoder

By // No comments:

A lot of expectant Nigerians have been asking what Sassy decoder is. Just yesterday TSTV tweeted on social media the arrival of ‘sister sassy’, the new TSTV decoder that will be on sale come 1st of April. I took my time to make a little bit of research on what the decoder is all about while taking a cup of coffee in my office.

These are what we know so far about Sassy decoder.
1. TSTV Sassy decorder will be sold for N3500 including the dish plus remote
2. Sassy decoder contains up to 70+ Channel
3. Pause Subscription: Sassy decoder comes with Pause subscription. You can only pause your subscription for seven days. Which means you have 7 days of grace plus your 30 days validity period?
Tstv Sassy Decorder

4. Pause Subscription is Only Available for 1 month subscription plan
5. PVR Function: You can record videos with sassy decoder and play later.
6. Daily Subscription cost as low as N200, 3 days subscription (N500), Weekly subscription (N750) etc.
7. You’ll be able to Pay for your TSTV Sassy Decoder subscription plan using Quickteller platform
8. TSTV  Sassy decoder is not internet enabled hence you won’t be getting the free 20GB promised.

Note? There are two set of decoders, the other is Dexterity which comes with the free 20GB data + 200 Channels but won’t be on sale for now. Only aunty Sassy will be on sale come 1st of April 2018.

My Opinion
This is more or less like DSTV/Gotv decorders since TSTV now has two set of decorders called Dexterity/Sassy, hence the package you enjoy on Sassy is different from what you’ll enjoy on Dexterity.

As at yesterday when I scan through their site with my epic microscopic eyes, I saw Grandsport 4 which should enable you to watch Laliga sports and other sports, but today, Grandsport 4 has been kidnapped. We don’t know yet if its embedded in the 70+ channels or it will only be available on Dexterity decoder.

Maybe this is the better upgraded version of Gotv decoder called Sassy but from another provider. After all, it is Pay as you Go. Better late than never.
This post will be updated once we discover more updates about this decoder.

Are You Currently Rocking 10GB Data For N2000 on 9mobile?

By // No comments:

The moment you saw 10GB for N2000 to last you for 30 days, I know a lot of you quickly opened this post to check how it’s done but read on.

There are lots of cheap data plans you can always go for but like it was reviewed earlier this point, you have varieties of options depending on your location. But this has been saving lives since 1900BC. Now that Teleology Holding has officially acquired 9mobile, I hope something better than this will come up.

It is an interesting fact that 9mobile, Nigeria 4thlargest telecom operator offers you option to subscribe for 1GB for N200 data and it doesn’t zap, and best recommended for everyone. The validity period for this plan is just 3 days, in which you can resubscribe again once it expires.

In other words, you can get 5GB of data for just N1000 on 9mobile network to last you for 15 days… and 10GB for N2000 to last you for 30days. In my observation of 9mobile network speed, it is fast in areas that cover 4G LTE and it’s available in almost all locations.

This article has been posted before, some are rocking it codedly while some others are busy draining the server of ntel data in locations available since it offers you free 10GB data on any sim purchased. But if you are like me, you’ll dust off your 9mobile sim, and simply dial *929*10#to get activated… dial *228# for data balance.

If you don’t have a 9mobile sim, you can simply get one for yourself and join the train. Let us know via the comment if you are currently rocking this plan on 9mobile network.

Facebook Data Dump Reveals Which Advertisers Have Access to Your Personal Data

By // No comments:

It has been a terrible week for Facebook; the social media giant got caught up in the data privacy scandal linked with data analytics firm Cambridge analytical (CA). Since the scandal came to light, users have been looking for ways to remove their data from the social media website prompting the #DeleteFacebook online campaign.

A tweet thread by software developer Dylan McKay suggests an interesting revelation wherein Facebook has access to call history details of McKay's conversations with his partner's mother. Add to that, Facebook seems to have historical records of all contacts (even those deleted), metadata of text messages, and metadata of cellular call logs.

Notably, he was using an Android phone during November 2016 and July 2017 when the data breach seems to have occurred.

How to Download Your Facebook History Account Data
To view the history of your Facebook account's data
>> log in to Facebook.com on the desktop browser,
>>click on the drop down icon on the top right of the page and select Settings.

>>In the General tab, you will see the Download a copy of your Facebook dataoption. Clicking that will prompt you to re-enter your Facebook password. An email containing a ZIP file will then be sent to your registered email address.

File size can depend on the activity frequency and age of your Facebook profile. In my case, it was a massive size of 1.6GB

Advertisers Extracting Data From Your Facebook Profile
The ZIP file you downloaded contains an HTML folder, which has a page titled 'ads.html'. Here, you can find the list of "Advertisers with your contact info" buried at the end of the HTML page.

The zip file also contains contains the entire list of third-party apps that you have installed on or linked with your Facebook account. It has IP addresses you've logged in from, email addresses, contact numbers of all friends you have added and pages you have liked; even all your phonebook contacts from Android smartphones you have used to log in to the Facebook account.

It contains metadata on Facebook events, your friend list, messages, places you have checked into, videos you have uploaded/ been tagged in, and also every like and poke you've made.

The zip file contains more, you just need to check it out.

TSTV Sassy Decoder is Here

By // No comments:

It appears we have a new date for TSTV decoder sales with a new name of the decoder dubbed #Sassy. Nigerians have waited for the sales of TSTV decoder for a very long term after series of disappointed date.

Some of us have even given up on TSTV except you are using a free to air decoder that can catch all TSTV channels without paying a dime. This is long overdue. However, TSTV took to their social media few minutes ago to announce the sales of a new decoder called #Sassy and it will be going for just N3500.

where to buy tstv decoder
No word on the promised free 20GB data on purchase of the decoder or free 10GB data when you make 1 month subscription. The initial promised price of the decoder + remote+ the dish was N5000 and now we can sight N3500.

When will the TSTV Sassy Decoder Go on Sale?
April 1st 2018. No word on location or state but I want to believe it will be global because test period has been completed.

Teleology Holding Officially Acquires 9mobile

By // No comments:

Teleology, which emerged the preferred bidder for the 9mobile transaction on February 21, has beaten the deadline stipulated under the bid process for the acquisition of 9mobile by paying a $50 million non-refundable deposit for Nigeria’s fourth largest network operator.

If they had failed to meet up with the deadline, Barclays Africa, the transaction adviser, would have invited the reserve bidder, SmileTelecoms Holdings, to takeover 9mobile.

However, Teleology Holding is expected to pay the balance of its $500 million bid for 9mobile in the next 90 days, in order to take full possession of the telecoms firm.

According to what this day reported, all contractual documents for the 9mobile transaction had been executed by all the parties.

“We have 12 executives coming in and they comprise five of my former colleagues at MTN such as the ex-CTO and ex-CFO. Others include executives from Orange, Vodafone, Celtel and others.”

“9mobile is transiting into a new phase that will be defined by optimal value delivery:  value to our employees, value to our customers, value to local communities and indeed to all stakeholders.”

Another distinguishing feature is that Teleology has formed an alliance with Safaricom, the biggest mobile operator in East Africa.

What we don’t know yet is if 9mobile will be undergoing another rebranding or Adrian Wood and his team will maintain the name 9mobile. Smile Telecom Holding will be like… “is this for real?”.

It's Time to Delete Facebook Says WhatsApp Co-Founder

By // No comments:

In 2014, Facebook bought WhatsApp for $16 billion, making its co-founders — Jan Koum and Brian Acton — very wealthy men. Koum continues to lead the company, but Acton quit earlier this year to start his own foundation. And he isn’t done merely with WhatsApp — in a post on Twitter today, Acton told his followers to delete Facebook.

In a tweeton Wednesday, Acton joined the chorus of voices calling on people to delete the social network. His advice to users to stop using the service is notable because WhatsApp is owned by Facebook.

The "delete Facebook" movement is growing due in part to a massive data scraping scandal in which data firm Cambridge Analytica harvested information on 50 million Facebook users without their knowledge.

Acton left Facebook (FB) in September of last year, and recently announced a $50 million investment in secure messaging app Signal and joined the company's foundation.

Facebook is under fire from the public and politicians in the United States and the United Kingdom over its data privacy practices. The company is taking a financial hit, too—Facebook lost$50 billion in market value this week.

Deleting Facebook may not be a viable option for some, but those who want to detach themselves from the Facebook platform would need to delete apps Facebook owns, too, which include WhatsApp and Instagram.

Older Android Phone may Stop Working Once Android P is Complete

By // No comments:

Are you still running Android 4.1 or below? Then you will be a victim of what is about to happen. Google has recently join Apple in clearing apps from play store that is not supporting the latest Android OS model.

This way all newly submitted apps should work with the latest Android versions, while the already available ones that fail to update could be retired for good.

Developers have found a new class in the latest Android P Dev Preview, which sets a minimum API version. If this is not met by an app, the OS pops up a warning message stating:
"This app was build for an older version of Android and may not work properly. Try checking for updates, or contact the developer."

The current minimum API version set in Android P is 17, which is 4.2 Jelly Bean. We are yet to see if this will remain as a warning in the final version of Android P, or it will block apps from running.

Google's intention will be brought to light once Android P is complete.

Philips Lighting introduces LiFi – Broadband internet connectivity through LED light

By // No comments:

Technology evolves every day and this got me thinking… How would you feel if each times your turn on your light bulb, you automatically have internet connection?

Philips Lighting introduces its LiFi technology which is a high quality LED lighting that provides broadband Internet connection through light waves.  It is the first global lighting company to offer LiFi-enabled luminaires from its existing office lighting portfolio.

LiFi is a two-way, high-speed wireless technology similar to WiFi but instead, it uses light waves instead of radio waves to transmit data. The Lighting’s office luminaires enabled with LiFi technology provide a broadband connection with a speed of 30 Mbps without compromising lighting quality.

How Does it work?
The LiFi technology has each luminaire equipped with a built-in modem that modulates the light at speeds that is not predictable to the human eye. The light is then detected by the LiFi USB key/dongle plugged into the socket of a laptop or tablet.

Philips lighting
The LiFi USB dongle returns data to the luminaire through an infrared link. This results in gets double the quality, and a robust connection as LiFi has 10,000 times the spectrum of WiFi. The company is offering LiFi-enabled Philips PowerBalance gen2 and Philips LuxSpace downlight luminaires.

The company claims that LiFi technology offers benefits over WiFi as it can be used in places where radio frequencies may interfere with equipment, or where WiFi signals cannot reach or are weak. It can also come useful in environments demanding high security, etc. LiFi adds an extra layer of security as light cannot pass through solid walls, and a line-of-sight to the light is needed to access the network.
