If you are familiar with how the phone market operates, the name Alcatel should sound a meaning to you even though you may not have used any of their phones before. Alcatel is a popular brand that produces mid- range phones like Alcatel Popstar etc.
Unfortunately,  Alcatel is now own by Nokia. It turns out that the Alcatel brand was among the assets owned by the French company when Nokia announced its acquisition.

This means that Nokia, technically, has two brands on the mobile market: the “Nokia” brand licensed to HMD Global; and the Alcatel brand licensed to TCL. But the ways the brands are licensed is completely different.

Though Nokia didn’t made mention of this a year ago when it acquired Alcatel Lucent not until now that it has acquired Alcatel brand as revealed to Nokia mob below;

The Alcatel brand was licensed by Alcatel-Lucent to TCL for mobile phones and devices and this license expires at the end of 2024. When Nokia acquired the assets of Alcatel-Lucent in 2016, this also included licensing agreements for the Alcatel brand.

Either way, more money for Nokia.
